Church Youth GameDay 382x255

Football vs. App State, special kick-off events scheduled

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Church youth groups of all denominations will descend on the Wofford campus on Saturday, Oct. 1, for the annual Church Youth GameDay to be held in conjunction with the Terrier football game against Appalachian State. Kick-off for the contest is set for 3 p.m.

Hundreds of churches have been invited to participate in the special event, which is a collaboration of Wofford Campus and Wofford Sports Marketing.

Beginning at 1 p.m., the youth will participate in the “GameDay Gathering” in Benjamin Johnson Arena. This special kick-off event gives youths a chance to mingle, meet new friends and enjoy a brief program planned by Campus Ministry. It includes music, giveaways, and student speakers.

Then, it’s time for football as everyone heads to Gibbs Stadium to enjoy one of the season’s most anticipated contests as the Terriers take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

Church Youth GameDay had been known as United Methodist Youth Fellowship
Day for decades, but the event was opened up to youth of all faiths several years ago. “We are very excited to be able to offer church groups such a wonderful opportunity to fellowship, visit the Wofford campus and enjoy an outstanding college football game,” Dr. Ron Robinson, the Perkins-Prothro Chaplain and Professor of Religion, says.

Cost is $17 per person, which include a reserved seat game ticket, the GameDay Gathering and a voucher for a hot dog, chips and a drink. Registration deadline is Thursday, Sept. 29.
