SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College Presidential International Scholar Russ Sandifer recently published an article relating to his research, an exploration of Islam and democracy, with the Catholic news agency AsiaNews on its Web site, www.AsiaNews.it.

Sandifer, who is traveling throughout the world this academic year as part of his independent research, wrote the article, and others, while being hosted by AsiaNews in Rome, Italy, as he awaits a possible interview with Abdul Rahman, Afghani man who became a Christian 16 years ago and recently was put on trial to be executed for changing his religion.

The article, published April 7 on www.AsiaNews.it, deals with Sandifer’s recent visit to Yemen and what people are saying about Abdul Rahman, apostasy in Islam, and religious freedom. He interviewed the head of the largest Islamic party in the opposition, Mohammed Qahtan, and a scholar in Sana’a, Iman Khaled.
