Wofford College Bowl Team heads to Nationals

February 21, 2005

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the first time in its history, the Wofford College academic competition team is the Region 5 College Bowl Champion and is headed to the College Bowl Nationals in Seattle, Wash., in April.

This weekend, Wofford defeated Region 5 host Virginia Tech University as Wofford competed successfully against 14 other colleges, including the College of William & Mary, Virginia Military Institute, Tusculum College, The Citadel, Hampden-Sydney College, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Davidson College.

Wofford’s team captain, senior Benjamin Ingram of Florence, S.C., was the highest individual scorer during the tournament. Other team members were juniors Benjamin McCraw of Inman, S.C., and Melia Brannon of Taylors, S.C., and freshmen Tejas Doshi and Vedhas Doshi, both of Spartanburg, S.C.

“We are thrilled about our finish and hope to represent Wofford well in Seattle,” Ingram says. “Without all of the encouragement and support from our friends at Wofford and elsewhere, there was no way we could have done anything like this, and we are very, very grateful.”

The team made a dramatic come-from-behind move in the final match against Davidson to win the tournament and qualify as one of 16 teams invited to the College Bowl Nationals in Seattle April 22-24.
