Collage and mixed media works by Jack Girard to be exhibited at Wofford

March 6, 2007

Spartanburg, S.C. – Wofford College will host an exhibit featuring collage and mixed media works by Jack Girard beginning Saturday, March 17. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

“Most recently, I have been concerned with war, race, archaeology, and ordnance,” Girard says of his work. “All are colored with a respect and appreciation for history.”  He has gravitated to collage and mixed media because it best fits the need for spontaneity and short-term processing, while embracing forms and materials familiar to the viewer.

Girard is professor of art at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., where he teaches multi-level painting, drawing and design.  He holds the MFA from East Carolina University.

The works will be on exhibit until April 28 in The Martha Cloud Chapman Gallery in the Raines Center. Hours for the gallery are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 6 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call Oakley H. Coburn, dean of the library and curator of Wofford's art galleries, at (864) 597-4300.
