Claire Miller Hopkins to Exhibit in Teszler Gallery
Wednesday, February 06, 2002
SPARTANBURG, SC—Master pastelist Claire Miller Hopkins will exhibit recent oil paintings of still-lifes and landscapes at the Sandor Teszler Library Gallery at Wofford College from Feb. 9 through March 22. An opening reception for the artist is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the gallery.
Hopkins is a member of the Pastel Society of America with the designation of master pastelist. She lives in Spartanburg, where she teaches and creates art. South Carolina artist and arts educator MacArthur Goodwin has described Hopkins as “the painter’s painter because of her masterful handling of media, subject and composition.” She is a workshop instructor, art juror and artist-in-resident in South Carolina public schools.
Although she is best known for her pastels of figural paintings, in 1999 Hopkins became interested in painting still-lifes and landscapes and returned to oil as a medium.
The Teszler Gallery exhibition features those recent paintings in this new direction for this well-known South Carolina artist.
Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-midnight; Friday, 8 a.m.-7 pm.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m.-midnight. There is no charge.
