'Economic Development of South' Topic of Lecture

SPARTANBURG, SC—Stanley Engerman, author of the landmark study of African-American slavery, “Time on the Cross: The Economics of American Negro Slavery,” will lecture on “The Economic Development of the U.S. South” on Thursday, April 10, at 4 p.m. at Wofford College. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Engerman, the John H. Munro Professor of Economics and professor of history at the University of Rochester, is among the nation’s most prestigious economic and social historians. He is a graduate of New York University and received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University.
The full title of his lecture is “The Economic Development of the U.S. South, From the Time of Columbus: A Comparative Perspective.”
The lecture will be in Room 101 of the Franklin W. Olin Building.
