Wofford Theatre presents Tony Award-winning musical “Into the Woods”

February 2, 2007

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford Theatre will present its production of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical “Into the Woods” beginning Thursday, Feb. 8, in the Tony White Theater in The Raines Center. The play will run at 8 nightly Feb. 8-10 and 14-17, with an additional 2 p.m. showing Feb. 17.

The play intelligently updates classic fairy tales such as “Cinderella,” “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Jack and the Beanstalk,” with poignant and hilarious results. From the psychological impact of being locked in a tower all of your life (“Rapunzel”), to what Cinderella didn’t know about Prince Charming, the story follows the characters in their attempts to make their wishes come true, and then examines the implications of getting what you wish for, as well as what happens after “happily ever after.”

The show is being directed by Dr. Mark Ferguson, with musical direction by Prof. W. Gary McCraw and instructor Christi Sellars.
