Wofford College to Observe King Birthday

SPARTANBURG, SC – Wofford College will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with several events planned in January.

“One Nation… One Dream… Now the Dream is in Your Hands” is the theme of the celebration of King’s legacy.

A Musical Celebration will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. in Leonard Auditorium in Main Building, featuring the Wofford & Converse College United Voices of Victory Mass Choir and the musical group Embraced. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Clay Turner of Spartanburg’s Episcopal Church of the Advent will be the featured speaker at a college-wide convocation on Monday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. as he speaks on “Now… The Dream is in Your Hands.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Leonard Auditorium in Main Building.

A Unity Prayer Breakfast will be held on Monday morning, where the Wofford community and invited alumni and guests will hear guest speaker Fred D. Gibbs, president of First South Financial Services and a 1987 Wofford graduate, as he and Wofford students reflect on the theme “One Nation… One Dream….” For information about this event, contact Darrin Goss at 597-4040.
