SPARTANBURG, S.C. – James Patrick (Pat) Prothro, a 1996 Wofford College graduate and vice president of Bellecorp Inc. in Park City, Utah, has been named to the Wofford Board of Trustees. He replaces the late Walt Sessoms, a 1956 Wofford graduate, who passed away earlier this year.
A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Prothro is a 1992 graduate of the Asheville School in Asheville, N.C. While at Wofford, he was active in Greek life, serving as president of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
Since graduating from Wofford, Prothro has been involved in various real estate developments. In addition to his duties with Bellecorp, he is managing partner of several real estate partnerships active in home development within recreational real estate areas in Utah and Arizona.
Among Prothro’s chief hobbies is flying hot air balloons. He and his father can be seen around the world flying one of their five balloons, which include the “special shapes” of Hopper T. Frog, Gizzmo the Gargoyle, and Pumpkinhead the Flying Jack-o-Lantern.
Prothro is a charter member of the Wofford President’s Advisory Board. In 1995, his family created the Perkins-Prothro Endowed Chaplaincy and Professorship in Religion at Wofford, continuing a family tradition of significant generosity toward and interest in United Methodist-related higher education. The Prothro family also has been supportive of Sweet Briar College, Texas Wesleyan University, Southwestern University (Texas) and the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
