Wofford announces faculty appointments, promotions

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College has announced the following faculty appointments and promotions.

Accounting and Finance:
Lillian Gonzalez was promoted to assistant professor.  She has a BA from Wofford College and received her MPAcc from Clemson University.  She has been at Wofford since 2001.

Biology:Dave Kusher was promoted to professor.  He earned his BA from the University of California Santa Barbara; the MA from San Francisco State University; and his PhD from the University of Georgia.  He came to Wofford in 1996.

Chemistry:
Ramin Radfar
was promoted to associate professor.  He hold a BS from Esfahan University and PhD from the University of South Carolina.  He began teaching at Wofford in 2001.

Jameica B. Hill was promoted to professor.  She received her BS from Wofford College and her PhD from Clemson University.  She has been at Wofford since 1993.

Computer Science:
David Sykes
was promoted to professor.  He has a BS from Purdue University; an MA from the University of Texas at Austin; and a PhD from Clemson University.  He has been at Wofford since 2001.

English:
David Rodrick
was appointed associate professor.  He received his BS from Northwestern University and his MA from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism.

John M. Ware was appointed assistant professor.  He earned his BA degree from the University of Virginia; an MA from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

Fine Arts:
Gary McCraw
was promoted to associate professor.  He received a BS from Wofford and MM from the University of South Carolina.  He began teaching at Wofford in 1989.

Foreign Languages:
Dr. Yan Gao
, named associate professor of Chinese.  BA from Beijing University; MA in English and American literature from the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis;  PhD in Chinese-American literature from Emory University.

Dr. Begoña Caballero-García, named assistant professor.  Graduate of the Universidad de Extremadura, Spain; received MA from Western Michigan University; PhD from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Jie Chen, named Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant. BA from Henan University; MA from Shanghai International Studies University.

Geology:
Terry Ferguson
was promoted to associate professor.  He has a BA from Wofford; and his MA and PhD from the University of Tennessee.  He has been at Wofford since 1984.

Government:
John Farrenkopf
was appointed associate professor.  He has a BA from Trinity College; an MA from Georgetown University; and PhD from the University of Virginia.

History:Mark Byrnes was promoted to associate professor.  He holds a BA from Lafayette College; and his MA and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin.  He has been teaching at Wofford since 2001.
 
Clayton Whisnant was promoted to associate professor.  He has a BA from Rice University; and MA and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin.  He came to Wofford in 2001.

Kenneth Harl was named Visiting Lewis P. Jones Professor of History (spring semester).  He is a professor of classical and Byzantine history at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he has taught since 1978.  He earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and his master’s and PhD from Yale University.

Mathematics:
Matt Cathey
was promoted to assistant professor.  He has a BA from the University of the South (Sewanee) and PhD from the University of Tennessee.  He has been at Wofford since 2004.

Military Science:
Lt. Col. Manuel T. deGuzman
was appointed professor and chairman of the department.  He earned a BA from the University of Maryland College Park, and an MS from Central Michigan University.

Philosophy:
Nancy Michele Williams
was appointed assistant professor.  She has a BS from Winthrop University; a BA from the University of North Carolina Charlotte; an MA from the University of South Florida; and PhD in philosophy from the University of Georgia.

Psychology:
Dave Pittman
was promoted to associate professor.  He has a BS from Wofford, and earned his MS and PhD from Florida State University.  He has been at Wofford since 2001.

Religion:
Katherine Janiec (“Trina”) Jones
was appointed assistant professor of religion.  She has a BA from Davidson College and MA and PhD from the University of Chicago.

Daniel B. Mathewson was appointed assistant professor.  He holds a BA from Messiah College; an MA from Duke Divinity School; and PhD from Emory University.  He taught at Wofford in 2005 on a one-year appointment.
