SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Four new members of the Wofford College Board of Trustees were elected at the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church of South Carolina held this spring in Orangeburg, S.C.
Joining the board are Fred Gibbs, president and CEO of Banc Capital & Financial Services Inc. of Spartanburg; Douglas Joyce, president of Synthesis Advisors Inc. of Nashville, Tenn.; D. Grant Peacock, president of Grant Peacock & Co. Inc.; and Edward B. Wile, a financial advisor and senior vice president of investments for UBS Financial Services Inc. in Atlanta.
Gibbs, a 1987 graduate of Wofford with a degree in business economics, is a native of Seneca, S.C. He is chairman of the Upstate Workforce Investment Board; chairman of the City of Spartanburg Investment Oversight Committee; a trustee, treasurer and audit committee chairman of the Mary Black Foundation; a board member of Business Carolina Inc.; and serves on the boards of trustees for Sherman College and Spartanburg Regional Foundation. Gibbs is president-elect of the Wofford National Alumni Association, is a member and past board member of the Terrier Club. He is a graduate and former board member of Leadership Spartanburg. He also has served on the boards of the Charles Lea Center, the Spartanburg Boys Home, the Spartanburg YMCA, and the South Carolina Young Bankers Association. He is married to Tamara D. Gibbs.
Joyce, a 1979 graduate of Wofford, is a native of Nashville. Within the Nashville business community, he is a member of the Exchange Club and the One Hundred Club, and various horse racing associations around the country. He is a member of the board of the Wofford National Alumni Association and the Terrier Club, and a former member of the Wofford Investment Advisory Committee. He and his wife, Sue, have twin daughters, Claire and Susie, age 10.
Peacock, a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. He received his JD degree from the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State University and is a certified public accountant in Pennsylvania. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Peace Center for Performing Arts and is chairman and member of the executive committee of the Investment Committee. He is a member of the Wofford President’s Advisory Council.
Wile, a native of Wooster, Ohio, is a 1973 graduate of Wofford and received his MBA from Georgia State University in 1983. He is an IMCA Certified Investment Management Analyst, a certification offered through the Wharton School, and is a registered investment advisor. He is a member of the Southern Employee Benefits Conference and the Investment Management Consultants Association. Wile was named to the Who’s Who of Investment Management Consulting and serves on its advisory board. He is chairman of the Investment Committee for Wofford and is past president of the Wofford National Alumni Association. He is on the board of directors of the Atlanta Union Mission. He and his wife, Vickey, have a daughter, Laura, and a son, Chip.
