SPARTANBURG, S.C. – More than 100 students from the 10 Southern Conference institutions will gather Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, at Wofford College for the inaugural Southern Conference Academic Exchange.

The Southern Conference Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF) will feature students and faculty presenting their research projects in all disciplines of the arts, humanities and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Among the research topics to be presented are whether mathematicians can find the most efficient plan to tour Disney World, whether selfies are revolutionary or narcissistic and what higher education was like in the antebellum era.

“This event is an opportunity for undergraduates to gain valuable experience in presenting and explaining research they have performed in previous semesters and over the summer months,” Dr. Stacey R. Hettes, association professor of biology and associate provost for faculty development, says. “We are excited and honored that Wofford is able to host the first SURF academic exchange.”

The program will be held in various locations on Wofford’s campus from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. For more information on the schedule, contact Hettes at hettessr@wofford.edu.

The Southern Conference NCAA athletics conference is composed of The Citadel, East Tennessee State University, Furman University, Mercer University, Samford University, the University of North Carolina Greensboro, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Virginia Military Institute, Western Carolina University and Wofford College.
