Carolina Panthers break camp attendance record

Summer training camp continues at Wofford through Aug. 16

Panthers refresh 382x255

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Halfway through the 2016 summer training camp at Wofford College, the Carolina Panthers established a new attendance record. The 10,226 fans who attended practice on Thursday, Aug. 4 – the seventh of 14 scheduled practices – pushed this year’s attendance to a record total of 79,804. The previous record was 77,625, established last year.

Thursday’s attendance was bolstered by a historic event – the first time any NFL team had practiced with a high school team. The Spartanburg High School Vikings football team was invited to work out and practice alongside the Panthers.

Breaking the attendance record so early is “really neat because when our fans show up in force and do anything for us, it brings energy to practice,” Panthers head coach Ron Rivera says. “The players feed off that energy and support.”

The team opened its 22nd summer training camp at Wofford on July 28, and practices will be held through Tuesday, Aug. 16.

You can still get in on the action. Practices, which take place on the practice fields at Wofford, are free and open to the public. Parking is free, and free shuttle bus service is provided from several locations. See for details regarding parking, traffic patterns and the schedule.
