SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College is ranked among the top 120 colleges and universities in the country – 119th overall and the highest-ranked South Carolina institution – in the sixth annual rankings of “America’s Top Colleges” by Forbes magazine. The rankings were released this week at Forbes.com.

In addition, Wofford is ranked 20th among the Best Colleges in the South and 89th among the Best Private Colleges.

Forbes partnered with the Washington, D.C.-based Center for College Affordability and Productivity for the Top Colleges in the U.S. The Forbes list of 650 institutions distinguishes itself among competitors because it emphasizes “output” rather than “input,” according to the magazine editors. “We’re not all that interested in what gets a student into college, like our peers who focus heavily on selectivity metrics such as high school class rank, SAT scores and the like. Our sights are set directly on ROI: What are students getting out of college?” the magazine writes.

Forbes selected the 650 from more than 2,500 four-year campuses – public, private, large and small – across the country and evaluated them based on five general categories: student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, graduation rate and nationally competitive awards.
