Description: Johannes Buxtorf the elder was a Swiss Orientalist and printer. He studied all over the continent; at Marburg, Heidelburg, Geneva, Zurich and Heilburn. Occupying the chair of Hebrew at Basel, he was looked upon, even by the Jewish community, as the supreme Hebraist of the time. (EUI)
