Camera Man’s Journey:

Julian Dimock’s South


A native of New Jersey, photographer Julian Dimock traveled throughout the South in 1904-05 capturing on film the lives of African Americans in South Carolina. This exhibition from the South Carolina State Museum depicts the ordinary life of a people caught in the Jim Crow system, and Dimock’s clear eye chronicles their poverty, struggles, and nobility of spirit.
