Linda Hudgins

In 1992 Linda Hudgins left Spartanburg to go with the US Peace Corps to teach art in Botswana for three years. She then went to China to teach art and English for three more years. She returned home in 1999 to Spartanburg and then to Tryon, NC where she set up her studio to paint and produce art.

In speaking about this recent series of paintings, she says, “I think there is something universal about the energy and form of the paintings that can take us to a place where this created world can be experienced as nameless form needing no renovation or ordering, just as a place to be.

“As you look, the paintings begin to reveal shapes and transitions and combinations of color and push and pull that are at first interesting and then exciting.  Finally I think that you will find yourself seeing things that feel familiar and connected to your own experience.

“Returning to exhibit in the Wofford College art gallery after twenty-four years feels like a homecoming.”
