Laura Bush

Laura Bush, Beta Sigma/SMU

Initiated 1966. As the wife of President George W. Bush, Laura became First Lady of the United States in 2001. Prior to that, she had supported her husband as First Lady of the Republic of Texas. Laura, a teacher and a librarian, has focused her energies as an advocate for children's literacy, teacher education, and early childhood preparation for learning. She became the 1st First Lady in history to record a full presidential radio address, speaking out on the plight of women and children under the oppressive Taliban regime.
Rue McClanahan

Rue McClanahan, Gamma Tau/Tulsa

Initiated 1953. Actress best known for her role as Blanche in the television series The Golden Girls. She has also been a strong animal rights activist.

Initiated 1972. American businesswoman, philanthropist, and the wife of United State Senator and 2000 and 2008 presidential candidate John McCain of Arizona.

Initiated 1997. Gymnast - Won a Bronze medal in the 1992 Olympics, Silver in the 1994 World Championship and Gold in the 1996 Olympics.

Sheryl Crow, Alpha Mu/Missouri

Initiated 1981. Sheryl Crow is a Grammy-award-winning vocalist and songwriter. She actively supports various causes including global warming and breast cancer research.

Marjorie Child Husted a.k.a. "Betty Crocker", Upsilon/Minnesota

Initiated 1909. Marjorie Husted became the 1st radio voice for General Mills' Betty Crocker and filled that role for twenty years.
