Why Interim?

“This past January I participated in the PULP theatre’s presentation of ‘Once Upon a Mattress.’ It’s one of the most terrifying and rewarding things I have conquered in my time at Wofford. I spent an intensive three weeks learning lines, musical numbers and choreography (something I had never done before) while simultaneously stretching myself on a personal and emotional level. I created a work of art with a wonderful group of people that I would probably never have interacted with if it had not been for Interim. Interim gave me the opportunity to have a month without the pressures of classes and grades to intensively explore a new field and in doing so learn more about myself and others around me.” Rea Gajewsky ’17

Jeff Kim ’09 travels the world with some of Hollywood’s best-dressed celebrities — Katy Perry, Zhang Ziyi, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Damon, Michael B. Jordan, Sasha Pieterse, Julianne Moore, Jamie Lyn Sigler… the list goes on and on. And it all started when he worked Fashion Week during an Interim internship experience. A business economics and Spanish major, Kim originally planned to become an attorney. Interim changed that.

Interim frees students and faculty to spend the month of January focused on a single topic designed to expand the walls of the traditional classroom, explore new and untried topics, take academic risks, observe issues in action, develop capabilities for independent learning and consider different peoples, places and professional options. During Interim, the ordinary should become extraordinary and filled with depth, discovery, reflection, challenge, academic rigor, experimentation, exploration and intellectual adventure.

That’s why, Interim!
