Impact Project

My grandfather, a retired surgeon from Orangeburg, SC, has spent his entire career advocating the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. From a young age, he has shown me how healthy choices and an active lifestyle can benefit one's life in the long run. I believe that the choice to have a healthy lifestyle begins with children at a young age.

My focus for several years has been to combine my passion for serving others with teaching the importance of a healthy lifestyle. For my project this year, I am bringing the Boosterthon Fun Run to Fairforest Elementary school, right here in Spartanburg, SC. Boosterthon is a great program that brings a “fun run and walk” to elementary schools across the country. The program allows students to raise money for their school by having their parents, family members, neighbors and friends pledge $1, $2, $10, or whatever it may be for every lap that they run.

Whereas typical school fundraisers involve selling meaningless wrapping paper or candy bars, Boosterthon promotes wellness and healthy living. Boosterthon provides a fun, exciting and motivational atmosphere for students, their families and their teachers. I think it is important to have children be excited about fitness and exercising and Boosterthon is a great way to instill these values in children. Not only will it be beneficial for the school and provide amenities for future endeavors and projects, but it is beneficial to the children.
