Guidelines for Faculty Assisting Students
If a student requests a disability related accommodation from you, ask if the student has registered with the Disability Services.
If a student has not registered, refer him/her to Disability Services, located in The Wellness Center (extensions 4371 or 4373) in the Hugh R. Black Building to obtain the guidelines and procedures.
If the student has already registered and the accommodation forms are completed, the faculty member will receive these forms through the campus mail. Once you receive these forms, the student will schedule an appointment to talk to you about his or her individual situation. At the conclusion of your meeting, both you and the student will sign the form and each of you will retain a copy. The white copy is to be returned to Disability Services. It is the student’s responsibility to return the copy to Disability Services after your meeting.
In accordance with the provisions of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and expanded by Title III of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Wofford is committed to ensuring that educational programs are accessible to all qualified students. The faculty and staff of the college are obligated to accommodate students in some mutually agreeable form, unless it will compromise the academic integrity of the course.
If you are concerned about any individual situation, please contact Dean Beth Wallace at extension 4371.
