What is Our Plan?

As signatories of the Presidents Climate Commitment, we have agreed to

Step One

Conduct a ghg inventory

Step Two

Choose from 7 tangible steps

Encourage use of and provide access to public transportation for all faculty, staff, students and visitors at our institution.

Yes: A faculty and staff task force formed in September 2008 to begin advocating for increased use and provisions of public and alternative transportation to and from campus. Part of the task force's goals include collaborating with other area institutions so as to increase the feasibility of mass transit offerings and use. In December 2008, the task force joined the Sustainability Committee/PCC Task Force.

Participate in the Waste Minimization component of the national RecycleMania competition, and adopt 3 or more associated measures to reduce waste.

Yes: Wofford will participate in RecycleMania for the second year in Spring 2009. Three additional waste minimization measures include: composting programs for kitchen and grounds waste; a battery recycling program; and a new purchasing policy of compostable/eco-friendly cups, plates and other wares in collaboration with the college's food service provider.

Step Three

Develop a climate action plan
Our first step towards the development of this plan is the publication of the first, Wofford Sustainability Annual Report, in which one will find an outline of our preliminary climate action plan.
