Delta Delta Delta’s national philanthropy is children's cancer research. Tri Delta recently partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment that is not covered by insurance. St. Jude covers the cost of everything: treatment, food, travel and lodging for patients and a family member. With approximately 5,400 active status patients, the hospital’s daily operating costs are nearly $1.3 million, which are primarily covered by public contributions. At the Delta Delta Delta 2006 National Conference, Tri Delta made a pledge to raise $10 million in 10 years for St. Jude. By July 2010, Tri Delta chapters nationwide had already raised $10 million, and we are on our way to far exceed our 10-year goal!
The Gamma Psi chapter of Wofford College was named one of the top contributers in the 10 Million by 2010 campaign! In addition, our chapter holds several events each year in order to raise money: Sincerely Yours letters are sent out to family and friends for donations, name-brand-jeans are sold on campus during Charity Denim, sisters walk for Relay for Life teams, and teacher competitions are held in which the teacher with the most raised money must kiss our terrier mascot. Our service to our philanthropy also extends beyond Wofford College. Several of our sisters have visited and volunteered at St. Jude. The walls of the hospital are covered with murals, and we are proud there is one thanking the members of Delta Delta Delta.
