Gamma Psi Chapter History
The Gamma Psi Chapter of Delta Delta Delta was chartered at Wofford College in the fall of 2000. Tri Delta collegiate members from the surrounding area such as Furman, USC, and Clemson facilitated our rush. In our first year we acquired 33 members. A national field consultant, Bethany Stout, lived in Spartanburg for our first semester and oversaw all of our new member education. The National Executive Board came to and ran our initiation, which occurred on November 11, 2000. The following night our Chartering Banquet was held at the Carolina Country Club where we accepted our charter and heard a speech from National President, Sarah Coons Lindsey.
The next semester, after having held officer elections, we began the process of writing our by-laws and policies. Another field consultant lived with us for the second semester, Brianna Konefall. Even through this hectic time, Gamma Psi continued to thrive.
We have since been honored for having the highest GPA on campus almost every year, both in our pledge class and overall. We have members who serve on Campus Union as well as the service fraternities. We also have members in Phi Beta Kappa as well as Order of Omega.
Most recently, we have gained 4 new sisters during our Spring Open Bid event. Many are already taking leadership positions and are seeing that this sorority is a place where they can make both a difference and lifelong friends.
Our history is just beginning, but we’re off to a great start. As different as we may be, we will continue to grow in our sisterhood and the bonds of Tri Delta.
