Wofford College and South Carolina Space Grant Consortium

Wofford College is a member of the South Carolina Space Grant Consortium(SCSGC).  SCSGC has helped and is helping NASA-related research for Wofford College students and faculty. Application forms for faculty members are on the SCSGC website under the "Research Opportunities" tab. Application forms for students are on the SCSGC website under the "Scholarships and Fellowships" tab. Students desiring an internship at a NASA laboratory should complete a NASA Student Internships and also apply to laboratory's program. The "Other Resources" tab on SCSGC's website provides links to some of these opportunities. Students seeking funding for a research project at Wofford should submit an Undergraduate Student Research Fellowship form to the SCSGC. Faculty members and students seeking funding should coordinate their efforts through Wofford College's Campus Director, Dr. Angela Shiflet.

SCSGC Internship Funding for Wofford Students

During previous summers, a number of Wofford College students had research internships at the NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California, NASA Ames Laboratory California, and NASA's Langley Research Center in Virginia.

Selection for the awards are based on: l) the academic qualifications of the applicant, 2) two letters of recommendation, 3) an example lesson plan using one of NASA’s curriculum materials available via the world-wide-web, 4) faculty sponsorship, and 5) description of past activities, current interests, and future plans concerning a space science or aerospace related field
   

Bridge Grants
Caleb Farmer and Jonathan Lowry  Caleb Farmer, a chemistry major, and Jonathan Lowry, a biology major, were
awarded $2,000 Bridge Grants from the South Carolina Space Grant Consortium.  The SC Space Grant Consortium (SCSG) established the Bridge Grant to fund promising technical and community college students who intend to transfer to a four-year college within the Consortium membership.
