Students studying outside the library

Student Information- Commencement Weekend

  • Moving out of the residence halls: The Office of Residence Life requires that seniors move out of college housing by 5 p.m. on the Sunday of Commencement. Please contact Dean Brian Lemere ( with any questions.
  • Participation in ceremony: All students are encouraged to participate in Commencement with their class as long as they are completing their degree requirements in May, August, December or Interim. If you finish your degree a full year after your class, you will need to participate in the May ceremony of the year you completed your requirements.
  • Rehearsal: Wofford does not have a rehearsal prior to Commencement. Please be respectful of your classmates and arrive on time Sunday morning. Graduates need to be at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium at 8:30 a.m. in order to line-up and process in for the 9:30 start. There will be student and faculty marshals there to assist you.
  • Location, Length of Ceremony: The ceremony will be held in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium and will last 1½ to 2 hours. Lemonade on the Lawn will be held immediately following the ceremony.
  • Purses/valuables: Please do not bring purses or valuables with you to graduation as there is no place to store them during the ceremony.
  • Photos: A professional photographer with the company, Grad Images, will photograph you as you receive your diploma. You will have the opportunity to purchase photos from them. For more information, please visit their website at
  • Tickets: Each graduate will be issued six (6) tickets for commencement. Family and friends are invited to be present at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium, but each guest must have a ticket.
  • Regalia:
    • Pick-up: you can pick up your regalia from the Wofford Bookstore the week before Commencement.
    • What to wear underneath:
      • Men: a white dress shirt, tie and dark pants. Jeans, tennis shoes and flip flops are not appropriate.
      • Women: a dress or skirt and dress shoes. You may be walking across campus, through grass, up and down stairs, and across the stage; please take this into consideration when selecting your heel height. Again, jeans, tennis shoes, and flip flops are not appropriate.
    • College policy regarding honor cords, stoles, etc.
      • The Commencement ceremony is intended to be humble and dignified - an event where you, as a cohort of graduates, are recognized for your successful completion of your course of study. It is not an event to particularize or categorize students into small groups. Students complete majors, minors and programs of study, and we celebrate that with you. Those academic activities are included in the Commencement program along with indications of honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude and high honors in an academic discipline). As such, we do not permit supplementary ornamentation at Commencement.
  • Degree completion = Degree audit at 100 percent: Watch your degree audit in DegreeWorks for confirmation that you have fulfilled all of your requirements. Once your degree progress bar is at 100 percent and all of your requirements have a check mark beside them, you can rest assured that your degree will be awarded. NOTE: Your degree audit will not show 100 percent until all final grades are entered and processed. Typically, that process is completed by the Saturday morning prior to Commencement.
  • Incomplete degree requirements: If your degree audit does not place you at 100 percent then you did not fulfill all of your degree requirements. The Registrar’s Office will send an email to your Wofford address explaining the situation and advising you how to resolve it. You still may participate in Commencement. You will receive your diploma cover when you cross the stage; however, your actual diploma will be mailed to you once all of your requirements are noted as complete.
  • How to contact the Office of the Registrar: After noon on the Friday before graduation the Office of the Registrar can only be contacted through The office has 36 hours from grade submission on Friday until the ceremony on Sunday to process all final grades, award degrees for the entire graduating class, and finalize the program for the printer. The office will not answer the telephone or the door after 5 p.m. on the Friday before graduation.
  • List of graduates: By 4 p.m. on the Saturday afternoon prior to Commencement, a list of all students for whom a degree has been awarded will be placed on the front door of the DuPre Administration Building. This list ONLY includes the students who have completed all degree requirements and have been awarded their degrees. If you are finishing your degree in August, December or Interim, your name will not be on the list, but you still may participate in the ceremony.
  • Transcript requests: Please submit transcript requests as early as possible through our online service. The link is available on myWofford. Be sure to indicate whether you would like your transcript to be held for final grades and/or your degree. Processing of transcript requests will begin the Wednesday after the Commencement ceremony.
