Student Information- Commencement Weekend

  • Moving out of the residence halls: The Office of Residence Life requires that seniors move out of college housing by 5:00 pm on the Sunday of Commencement. Please contact Dean Brian Lemere (lemerebj@wofford.edu) with any questions.
  • Participation in ceremony: All students are encouraged to participate in Commencement with their class as long as they are completing their degree requirements in May, August, December or Interim. If you finish your degree a full year after your class, you will need to participate in the May ceremony of the year you completed your requirements.
  • Rehearsal: Wofford does not have a rehearsal prior to Commencement. Please be respectful of your classmates and arrive on time Sunday morning. Graduates need to be at Ben Johnson Arena at 8:30 am in order to line-up and process in for the 9:30 start. There will be student and faculty marshals there to assist you.
  • Location, Length of Ceremony: The ceremony will be held on the front lawn of Main Building and will last 1 ½ to 2 hours. Lemonade on the Lawn will be held directly following the ceremony.
  • Rain plan: In the event of rain, Commencement will be moved indoors and held at Benjamin Johnson Area with additional live streaming locations throughout campus. If the rain plan is in effect, students will assemble in the athletics department hallway on the ground floor of the Richardson Building. Your family/friends will need a ticket in order to attend.
  • Tickets: When Commencement is held on the front lawn of Main Building, tickets are not required. All family and friends are invited to be present. However, in the event of rain, Commencement will be moved into Ben Johnson Arena and tickets will be required for your family/friends to enter the venue. You will be given 6 tickets which will be delivered to your campus post office box the week before graduation. DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKETS. They will not be replaced. Family and friends that do not have a ticket can view the event through live streaming at locations throughout campus.
  • Regalia:
    • Pick-up: you can pick up your regalia from the Ben Wofford Bookstore the week before Commencement.
    • What to wear underneath:
      • Men: a white dress shirt and tie, and dark pants. Jeans, tennis shoes, and flip flops are not appropriate.
      • Women: a dress or skirt and dress shoes. You will be walking across campus, through grass, up and down stairs, and across the stage; please take this into consideration when selecting your heel height. Again, jeans, tennis shoes, and flip flops are not appropriate.
  • Purses/valuables: Please do not bring purses or valuables with you to graduation as there is no place to store them during the ceremony.
  • Photos: A professional photographer with the company, Grad Images, will photograph you as you receive your diploma. You will have the opportunity to purchase photos from them. For more information, please visit their website at http://www.gradimages.com/
  • Degree completion = Degree audit at 100%: Watch your degree audit in DegreeWorks for confirmation that you have fulfilled all of your requirements. Once your degree progress bar is at 100% and all of your requirements have a check mark beside them, you can rest assured that your degree will be awarded.
  • Incomplete degree requirements: If your degree audit does not place you at 100% then you did not fulfill all of your degree requirements. The Registrar’s Office will send an email to your Wofford address explaining the situation and advising you how to resolve it. You can still participate in Commencement. You will receive your diploma cover when you cross the stage; however, your actual diploma will be mailed to you once all of your requirements are noted as complete.
  • How to contact the Office of the Registrar: After noon on the Friday before graduation the Office of the Registrar can only be contacted through registrar@wofford.edu. The office has 36 hours from grade submission on Friday until the ceremony on Sunday to process all final grades, award degrees for the entire graduating class, and finalize the program for the printer. The office will not answer the telephone or the door after 5:00 pm on the Friday before graduation.
  • List of graduates: By 4:00 pm on the Saturday afternoon prior to Commencement, a list of all students for whom a degree has been awarded will be placed on the front door of the DuPre Administration Building. This list ONLY includes the students who have completed all degree requirements and have been awarded their degrees. If you are finishing your degree in August, December or Interim, your name will not be on the list, but you can still participate in the ceremony.
  • Transcript requests: Please submit transcript requests as early as possible through our online service. The link is available on myWofford. Be sure to indicate if you would like your transcript to be held for final grades and/or your degree. Processing of transcript requests will begin the Wednesday after the commencement ceremony.
