Conference Seminars

The 2007 ASLE conference at Wofford College will feature three scholarly seminars.

Pre-conference Seminars:

Within-conference Seminar:

Format

Advance registration is requested (January 15, 2007), and each seminar is limited to 15 participants and will meet for three hours.  In response to questions and readings selected by the seminar leaders, participants will write brief position papers on the seminar topic and submit them prior to the conference (exact due dates will be determined by seminar leaders). Seminar leaders will facilitate circulation of the papers, with specific instructions for comments or response, prior to the conference. At the conference, each seminar leader will moderate the discussion about each paper submitted by participants.

We particularly encourage graduate students and younger scholars to consider attending the conference as seminar participants. Each seminar participant will receive an official acceptance letter, and individual paper titles will be listed in the conference program. Thus, we encourage (but will not require) seminar participants to consider attending the seminar in lieu of presenting during a regular concurrent session.

We hope that the new formats we are offering in 2007 will increase discussion on important topics in literature and environment, allow conference attendees to receive constructive feedback on their work and ideas, and provide scholars and writers with more opportunities to make productive professional connections.
