ASLE Book Awards in Ecocriticism and Environmental Creative Writing

The Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment announces a new series of book awards in ecocriticism and creative writing.

The biennial ASLE Book Awards will be presented in two categories:

1) the best book-length monograph of scholarly ecocriticism originally published in 2005 or 2006.

2) the best book-length publication in any genre of creative writing, with an environmental theme, originally published in 2005 or 2006.

NOTE: works of narrative scholarship, or works that in other ways blend scholarly criticism with creative writing, can only be submitted in one category, which must be indicated in the accompanying nomination letter.

Works may be submitted by either the author or publisher  Submissions must include a letter of nomination that explains why the work warrants consideration for this award.

Nominees must be members of the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment, or an international affiliate, as of January 1, 2007.

Works must be in English.

Three copies of the nominated book, and the nomination letter, should be sent to:

Deadline for receipt of all materials is January 1, 2007.

The awards will be presented at the ASLE biennial conference, June 11-16, 2007 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Both awards include a prize of $500 in addition to inclusion in the conference banquet program.
