News: SMITH MOORE LEATHERWOOD NAMES ATTORNEY BAILEY KING AS NEW PARTNERCHARLOTTE, N.C. (Jan. 16, 2013) — Smith Moore Leatherwood named C. Bailey King, Jr., an attorney in the firm’s Charlotte office, as a new partner, effective Jan. 1, 2013. King, a litigation attorney, joined Smith Moore Leatherwood in 2005, and focuses his practice on complex business and commercial litigation. He regularly handles matters related to contract disputes, securities law violations, financial and investment litigation, intellectual property infringement and antitrust counseling. In 2011, King, along with fellow litigation attorney Rob Marcus, represented the City of St. Petersburg, Fla., in a case versus Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., involving investment losses suffered by the city in a securities lending program. They will present a related seminar, “The Fallout from the Financial Crisis,” at the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) Mid-Year Seminar on April 14-16. “We congratulate Bailey on this well-deserved achievement, and are delighted to welcome him to the partnership,” said Rob Marcus, Chair of the firm’s Management Committee. “Bailey is an excellent attorney, dedicated to his clients and diligent in his work, and he will be a tremendous asset to the firm as a partner.”In 2012, King was selected for inclusion in the North Carolina Super Lawyers magazine - Rising Stars edition for business litigation. He was also recognized by Business North Carolina as a Legal Elite in the Young Guns category for 2011. “I am honored to have been named as a partner to the firm,” said King. “I look forward to the opportunity to grow my practice and am excited to represent the firm in this new position as partner.” King is active in the commercial litigation sections of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys (NCADA). Currently, he serves on the Antitrust and Complex Business Dispute Litigation Section Council for the North Carolina Bar Association, where he is also the editor of the section’s newsletter. Outside of his legal practice, King serves on the Board of Directors for the Wofford College Terrier Club. He is active in the local Charlotte community as a member of the Young Donor Society for the Arts and Science Council and the Starlight Society, which supports the Levine Children’s Hospital. King received his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Wofford College in 2002. He received his juris doctor, with high honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2005.
