
About George Frein
George Frein, PhD taught in the Philosophy and Religion Department at the University of North Dakota from 1968 to 1997. George served as a scholar for the Great Plains Chautauqua Society from 1986 to 1997, portraying Father De Smet, Henry Adams, Herman Melville, and Mark Twain. In 1998 he organized the National Chautauqua Tour, which held Chautauquas around the country. When George “retired” to South Carolina in 1999, he helped establish Chautauqua in Greenville, and Asheville.
In the Carolinas, George’s characters include John Adams, John Winthrop, Dr. Seuss, John James Audubon, and Abraham Lincoln. George lives in Greenville with his wife Shelly Matthews, Professor of New Testament at Furman University, and their children, Nathan 15 and Alice 12. |
