Advising Policy and Procedure
Advising Responsibilities of the Departmental Chairman:
-Interview students for major and minor declarations.
-Assign newly declared majors and minors an advisor.
-Consult with advisors and students on transfer credits (other colleges, summer school, and foreign study).
-Conduct a final review before the beginning of senior year and before graduation of the academic progress of all of the department's seniors majors & minors.
Responsibilities of Departmental Faculty Advisors:
-Consult with advisees about their semester schedules.
-Distribute PINs to their respective advisees only after consultation.
-Distribute four-year planners to all of their new advisees.
-Maintain a record for each advisee's declaration form, academic progress forms, and any special agreement forms.
Student's Registration and Advising Duties:
-Meet each semester (at a minimum) with their advisor to plan their next semester and receive their PINs.
-Complete an academic progress report each semester before registration for the following semester and present the report to their advisor during their meeting.
Advising Responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant:
-Keep a roster of advisors and their respective advisees.
-Coordinate graduation clearance.
-Maintain academic progress report forms, agreement forms, and major/minor declaration forms.
