David Harmon '05
Post-doctoral researcher, New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences
PhD, Columbia University 2010
BS, Computer Science & Mathematics, emphasis in Computational Science, Wofford College, 2005
After graduating from Wofford, Harmon enrolled in the computer science PhD program at Columbia University on a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. His research focused on the simulation of physical phenomena for computer graphics — a blend of physics, mathematics, and computer science. In addition to garnering top-tier publications, his work is used in generating special effects at leading studios such as Walt Disney Feature Animation (Bolt, Untangled) and Weta Digital (The Lord of the Rings, Avatar).
After completing his PhD, Harmon took a position as a post-doctoral researcher at New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, funded by a prestigious Computing Innovation Fellowship. He continues his work in physical simulation, as well as researching novel techniques in geometric modeling.
