Career Highlights:
After completing her pediatric residency, McElderry served as assistant
professor of pediatrics and adolescent medicine at the University of
Kentucky College of Medicine from 2000-2003. At the University of
Kentucky, she was honored by her colleagues with the Warren E. Wheeler
Teaching Award for excellence in teachiing pediatric housestaff. She has
been published in several medicial journals, including Pediatrics
in Review, The Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and
The International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health. Upon
moving to Birmingham, McElderry joined Greenvale Pediatrics, where she
currently practices. In addition, she supervises nurse practitioner
students from the University of Alabama Birmingham, medical students,
and pediatric residents during their outpatient pediatric rotations.
McElderry spearheaded a community organization that included the United
Way, a local hospital, and county businesses that planned and executed
the openiing of a free medical clinic in her area in October 2008. She
served as the first chairman of the board, and remains on the board of
directors, as well as actively volunteering at the clinic. She teaches
puberty education in several area schools, and leads a developmental
seminar for the sixth grade confirmation class at her church.
