Career Highlights:
While doing a five-year residency at the University of
Cincinnati, Dr. Ben McIntyre was elected chief administrative resident
and served his final year managing 50 residents and interns who staffed
general surgery at six hospitals in the greater Cincinnati area. He was
the recipient of the Max Zinninger Award, the highest award offered to
surgical residents at Cincinnati for demonstrated scholarship,
professionalism and personal achievement, and was recognized with the
Josef E. Fischer, M.C. Award presented to the resident who most
exemplified excellence in patient care, attention to detail, and
intellectural curiosity in the pursuit of clinical and scientific
knowledge. During McIntyre's experiences at the Cincinnati Shriner's
Hospital for burned children, he became interested in reconstructive
surgery. In May 2007, he matched at the University of Virginia
Department of Plastic Surgery where he now works in facial aesthetic and
reconstructive surgery, skin cancer, breast reconstruction, head and
neck malignancy and microsurgial tissue transfer. In June 2010, McIntyre
will begin an international fellowship in microsurgery and head and
neck oncology in Wellington, New Zealand.
